History

History of Lee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board

Lee County Comprehensive Community Services Board was chartered in 1974. This private, non-profit organization began contracting with the State of South Carolina Department of Mental Retardation to provide day services in Lee County. In August of 1984, the Board changed its name to the Lee County Mental Retardation Board, Inc.

In April of 1985, Lee County Special Housing Board, Inc. was chartered to provide residential services for persons with disabilities. In 1987, two Intermediate Care Facilities, McLeod I and McLeod II were completed.   In 1993, during the state reconstructing process, Lee County Mental Retardation Board, Inc. changed their name to Lee County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Inc. (Lee County DSN Board).

Ms. Mary Mack has served as Executive Director of Lee County DSN Board since December 2002, following the retirement of Mrs. Ruby Gibbs-Williams. Ms. Mack continues to carry out the main focus of the programs of Lee County DSN Board - providing the best quality services to persons with disabilities in Lee County.  Ms. Mary Mack retired December 2018.
